Steve you make some very good points about why MathML should be a
preferred option. One thing you didn't raise in that is that for some
audio might not be suitable eg. those who are deaf and blind, in that
situation Braille is possibly the most appropriate output. MathML
abstracts away from the output system letting the software choose how it
should be presented.
