[Blindmath] mathematica accessibility

Hi Vincenzo, As Daniel stated previously both programs have some barriers regarding accessibility.

I am an Electrical Engineering student and I have the option of using both. I personally prefer Matlab for my line of work and with my current setup it is way more accessible than Mathematica. CanI ask, What is your setup?

I use Matlab on the Mac with the Voice over and nearly all of the GUI is accessible. However, Mathematica on the Mac is not compatible with Voice Over at all, unless you want to run it in the command line. I don’t have any experience using Mathematica in the command line, so I am afraid I cannot comment on its accessibility there. IF you have the option of using Matlab and you have a similar setup as I do, nearly 95% of the GUI is accessible when using Voice Over. The other 5% you can access using the command line built into Matlab. Please do not take my comments above as if I am suggesting that Matlab is a better program, rather I am just pointing out what my experiences have been. While they look similar on the surface, they have significant differences underneath.

If Your setup includes a Magnifier, or you plan to run Mathematica on Windows I suggest waiting for people with those setups to comment.

Kind Regards
Santi

I find that both programs are only somewhat accessible when run into man-line mode. I'm not exactly sure how you run Mathematica on the commandline. However, The GUI (Graphical user interface) editors in both applications are completely inaccessible as of this time. I have just found that when creating code using either scripting/programming language, it was most convenient for me to edit the file in Notepad, and then run/test it on the command line. hopefully this is helpful info.
