Try talking to them about getting a math student to hire on from your
school to do transcription. Math students already know the codes, and so
they can do this very well once trained. You'll need to be patient, and I
recommend a mixture of la tex and braille/ASCII. You can use la tex for
some things, but believe me when I say don't even try to do matrices in la
tex and work with them. Since they are two dimensional, you really will
benefit from paper because you can feel the whole matrix. For this, I
needed transcribers. I simply didn't have time to turn my braille into la
tex (I was able to figure out how based on feedback from this list and
resources like the wikibook but it was just lots of manual labor). I used
nemeth for most of Calc, a mixture of nemeth and la tex for various
assignments. Ask your prof for their assignment, see if they have it in la
tex. They might have it in word or handwritten, if so, DSO will need to
convert it, or a human will need to read it). I used mathtype, this is
often easier for a DSO office to translate things into. The good old
alt+backslash trick converts to la tex for selected text in word (It's
wordey la tex, I.e. {X}^{2}} would be x^2, so be prepared for that). Then
you can copy the text out to a txt/other format if you like. Remember, NVDA
can read mathplayer and mathtype (because it can work with mathml through
math player). It shows you braille and speech, and don't forget to read the
mathplayer keyboard shortcuts reference.
