I was brought up on old school nfb philosophy that fixed route is better due to the stereotypes of paratransit. I was tought by old school nfbers that paratransit is exclusionary. I also had a former foster parent that put the fear of federationism [god] in me that has stuck with me for over 20 years. She was a rock ribbed federationist. She even made me burn my half fare card when i was 15. I remember several hour long travel routes under shades. Paratransit is bad and to rock ribbed diehard true believers paratransit and half fare cards are the work of the devil along with the ever purvasive handicap plackard used by many blind people today. Also pampering is a sign of weakness. Also a real demening thing we need to stamp out over me riding the train and the ever you aint supposed to be on this train and you had better start using the handicap van. So having said this i will never never never catch me using paratransit. I can see reduced fare but once again my unwaivering federation philosophy dictates no to paratransit and ride free is a huge no no. The paratransit should be designed

Subject: [Blindtlk] Paratransit Vs. fixed Routes

Hello. I was reading the thread discussing the pros and cons of blind
driving, and noticed some discussion regarding paratransit versus fixed
routes. What I am wondering is this. Does paratransit in most cities closely
follow fixed routes within a certain radius as I assume it does in Palm
Beach County? From what I read from the list, paratransit is neither
superior or inferior to fixed routes, hence it's name. Therefore, if
blindness is your only disability, and your travel skills enable you to
travel anywhere you please with confidence, as is the case with me, what are
the advantages of paratransit, if any? I am interested in hearing your
thoughts on this
