[Blindtlk] braille printer questions

Hi Nikki,

You may also want to put a notice out in the Monitor to be put in the
Monitor Miniatures section saying that you are looking for an affordable
Braille embosser, and anyone who is looking to sell their embosser can
contact you. Make sure you include your contact information in this notice
so that people can contact you. Here's an example of what the notice might
look like:

Looking for an affordable Braille embosser for home use. I would be
interested in prices ranging from (insert your minimum price) to (insert
your maximum price.) If anyone has a Braille embosser they would like to
sell, please contact Nikki Pearl by calling (insert your phone number) or by
emailing to (insert your email address.)

You can write it any way you want; this is just an example of how I would
write one based on notices of this kind I have read in the Monitor. After
you have written your notice, you can submit it to the Monitor by emailing
Gary Wunder, the Monitor editor, at gwunder at nfb.org.

The Matilda Ziegler Magazine, a weekly magazine for the blind that is
published electronically every week, also carries these kinds of notices. To
submit a notice to the Ziegler, email Ross Hammond at
editor at matildaziegler.com

Hope this helps,

Chris

For the time being, you might be able to make a deal with someone who has a
printer. You buy the paper and run the job. You may have an acquaintance who
can help you make that happen. Does your affiliate own one? Perhaps you can
make a deal for its use. Sometimes a TVI will have one as well. It could
solve the problem right now, and you can put some aside to buy one when you
can.

A couple of other thoughts. Check out some of the sites that sell used
equipment. You can pick things up there too.

If you must know, I want to braille copies of a church hymnal for
friends who are wanting one, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get a
company and the international organization to do business. This way I can
just do the brailling at no charge. Later on, I may start charging for
whatever I transcribe.

What are you thinking of using the printer to do? Maybe it could be used
more in pursuit of a job than you might think, or perhaps there are other
options. I'm afraid you are going to be hard pressed to find someone to buy
something of the expense of a printer if it is not vocational or
educational, but I could be wrong.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
