Dear Julie,
No offense taken and I agree with you.
I see no reason why, I as a Blind person can not own a car. I know several
people, especially seniors living here in Florida, who keep their cars ,
like some sort of security blanket, and let other people use it to drive
them around or for relatives to use when they come to visit.
I know many who should not be driving anymore, but use their cars to drive
to the mall or to food shop or go to the doctor.
They scare the hell out of me and i have been struck twice, out of three
times, by seniors.
I have been lucky not to be seriously hurt.
I live just one mile from Century Village, a retirement community with about
15,000 residents.
I hear the fire trucks and ambulances going past my house to the Village all
of the time.
A lady friend of my mother in law, once put her car over the curb, through a
fence and into the deep end of one of the community pools. That made some
picture on the news.
Here in Florida, a state issued, Non-Drivers License I.D. card must be
accepted the same as a regular driver's license in all financial
transactions.
We use to have a few banks that would not accept our I.D. card to cash a
check and we complained.
David Evans, NFBF and GD Jack.
