[Blindtlk] Running While Blind, How to Link to Guide

Hi Julie,

So it's kind of like sighted guide except that you hold your
guide's hand instead of his elbow?

Chris

The blind runner and guide have to run at pretty much the same
speed.

I've just started running/jogging again after breaking my foot
last
year. If I am running on sidewalks or streets, I hook my fingers
to my
guides fingers, kind of like holding hands, but looser. I'm not
sure
how to explain exactly. If I am running on the track with my
guide he
just runs alongside me and gives me verbal directions. It's
pretty
wide, I'm pretty slow and we go when there are no other runners.

 Question.

How does this work? I mean, you have two people who run at
different
speeds and if you use a jump rope, I'm sorry, but I'm picturing
in my
mind two people running where the guide is holding one handle
and the
blind runner holding the other, but the blind runner is trying
to keep
up with the guide, trailing behind.

 IDK. I guess I don't understand.

I did it the same way. In fact, a jump-rope isn't a bad thing
to use
 since
it has handles at both ends.

When I have done it we used a short length of rope to which we
both
 held. I
am not an expert runner though, so there may be a better way.

 Dave

p.s. I am not even an amateur runner, just a lazy blind guy!
