I don't know about echo location, although that does work when you're going 
through a parking lot and coming to a building.  On a smaller scale, this is

termed object perception, and very useful.  A simplified experiment is to 
start speaking, and as you're speaking, hold your hand next to your ear. 
I've had sighted people try this to demonstrate what object perception is, 
then explain that object perception can give clues to the presence of a 
corridor or doorway, the approximate size of a room, etc.

I don't know anything about the company you're referencing.
