[Blindtlk] Guide dogs and the Dentist

Hi Chris and All,
I tend to fully agree with Julie. If you are not a guide dog user and are not necessarily interested in getting one, than joining those lists is likely not what you want to do as they are very filled with other topics that likely would not be of much interest at all to a non-guide user that is not considering switching to the use of one.

Given the heavy response your question drew, it suggests to me that there are many guide dog users here who are completely capable of responding and more than happy to respond to your email and would be more than happy to address these types of issues.

I agree with you and Julie as well that this seems like an appropriate list for this email as it is a non-specific list. If others are having issues with certain blind-related questions on a list that is for all blindness related issues )including guide dog inquiries), than this may not be the place for them to be as this is what this forum is set up for.

I am sorry that you got a negative response from some here and honestly, if I had this question, this is likely where I would have posted it as well had I not been a dog user and not considered getting one. Thissi not a cane specific list, at least to my knowledge so I think guide dog questions are completely appropriate. In some ways, the comments saying that this is not an appropriate place for this type of question come across as suggesting that this list is not welcoming to guide dog handlers and their questions either.
Have a wonderful rest of the day and I am sorry if anyone is upset with my message, this is just honestly surprising to me as I think this is a really appropriate topic for a general blindness related list,
Chris

Chris,

It's fine, at least as I see it. True there is a list specific to guide dog
issues, but I saw your question as a general inquiry, not as wanting to know
everything about guide dogs.

I see this list as a good place to start for all things blindness related.
Sometimes I have a quick question about cooking or technology. Sure there
are specific lists for those things too. However I don't want to join
another list to get one question answered. I like that I can post here and
someone will know something about just about everything. If I need more in
depth information I can always join another list or go look at suggested
resources. Sometimes I don't want or need detailed information though and
a brief explanation will do just fine.
