Blinded Vets and Friends Newsletter:

Web Site: www.blindedvetsandfriends.org

Please pass this announcement to share it with others who may be
interested.

Summer is nearing an end, and fall is approaching. September means
back to being home again, and back to a regular work schedule for lots
of our Veterans.

The Blinded Vets and Friends will provide more on line computer &
technologies classes in our chat/conference room in the coming Fall &
Winter seasons.

We will be problem solving and discussing technical issues and be
providing a demonstration about computer maintenance – this should
be done every year. Homeowners get a furnace or air conditioner
tune-up regularly. Your driver (most of us don’t drive anymore!)
changes your car’s oil on a regular basis, and you clean your gas
grill so that it cooks with maximum efficiency. Computers need regular
care too! If your computer has been slowing down, or acting strangely,
maintenance service is probably your best solution. So we can give you
some suggestions on how to make some minor adjustments so your
computer can work like it just came out of the box!

Blinded Vets and Friends will have more classes again on My
Health-e-Vet. We’ll talk about what My Health-e-Vet is, and why it
can be helpful to you. We’ll cover how to use the internet and log
on to access My Health-e-Vet.

We will also be talking about technologies that are coming out in the
near future, and we hope to have some guest speakers this fall. In
addition, the most important benefit in participating with the Blinded
Vets and Friends is that you will meet Veterans like yourself who live
every day with vision problems. It’s a great way to network!

You also will learn how the VA can help you with vision loss. If you
are not sure what role the VIST Coordinator and BROS play in working
with blinded Vets, we can help you!

These are just some of the topics we’ll discuss in the coming
season, as it would take too many pages to talk about everything the
Blinded Vets and Friends are trying to do.

We want all of you to know that the Blinded Veterans Convention in
Portland, Oregon that ended last Saturday night, August 22. I
couldn’t make the convention this year but I am going next year for
sure. I always pay my own way and it is well worth it. If your pocket
book can afford you to attend next year’s convention in Washington
DC, then come and learn about what the BVA is doing for us, see the
new technologies demonstrations, and join in some fun activities with
other blinded vets. If it wasn’t for the BVA we would have a rough
road ahead of us. Being a Vet dealing with sight loss, I am thankful
with all my heart for the BVA.

The Blinded Vets and Friends website has 3 rooms that you can use
anytime. We reserved the Office & Classroom to any Veterans and
Friends to use for meetings or for other personal business. Just email
or call Jerry Hogan and he will set up the room for you and even put
in a Password that will ensure your group activity will not be
interrupted.

Finally, you should know that we have a meeting and discussion every
Tuesday night at 5:30 pm PSD; 7:30 CDS and 8:30 EDT o’clock. The
directions for logging in and contact persons if you are having any
problems getting intoroom are below. We hope to see you every Tuesday

Respectfully,
