I use a straight cane. They are lighter, if you use the NFB fiberglass ones, and they give a lot of information that is not 
obtainable with a folding cane. With a straight cane, I can use the echo of the sound of the cane off buildings to locate them. The 
straight cane does not get stuck in as many side walk cracks or hung up in the grass line like a folding one does.
