Below are the minutes from the October meeting of the Central Oklahoma Chapter. The November meeting is Friday, Nov. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the home of Mark and Nedra Ruth. 8508 St Michael Court.

October 2016 Chapter Meeting

October 14, 2016

 

1.	President Rex Schuttler welcomes everyone. Notes that meeting will be recorded for a Chapter President University Assignment.
2.	Attendance: Rex Schuttler, Audrey Farnum, Glenda Farnum, Tamala Young, Eric Holland, Callie Chappell, Nedra Ruth, by telephone, Cathy Tuton.
3.	Presidential Release played. Riccobono speaks about our opposition to the How Eye See It social media campaign. Encourages all members to post videos showing how they live the lives they want. Campaign ends mid October but we will push back all through October for Meet the Blind Month. Gave an update on the newly introduced HR6621, Aim High Act regarding accessible instructional materials for higher ed. Urges all NFB members to get out and vote. Reminds us the Help America Vote Act requires accessible machines at all polling places for a Federal election. Election day hotline for questions, reporting problems and reporting good experiences will be available. Washington Seminar will be held Jan. 29 to Feb. 2 2017. Great gathering in on January 30 at Holiday Inn Capital. Room rate is $188 plus tax. 18775726951 for reservations, F7B is booking code. Book by December 28, 2016.
4.	Secretary’s report read. Motion to accept made and seconded. Motion carries.
5.	Treasurers report Glenda doesn’t have official number. Balance is unchanged except for costs associated with meeting transportation. Motion to approve report made and seconded. Motion carries. 
6.	New meeting location. Glenda has researched location at Will Rogers Center Room seats about 50. Tables and chairs supplied. A/V equipment also available at no extra cost. Website says room is available Monday through Friday 8 to 5. We are looking to see if we can get special arrangements to fit our 7 to 9 meeting time. Cost will be $20 per month.Rex and Glenda will continue to follow up.
7.	Meet the blind month. Had discussed going to boathouse. Cost is $40 and we felt that it was too high. We still have a couple weekends to plan something. Glenda suggests going to Chili’s for the Chili’s fundraiser as a group. We will meet between 6 and 6:30 at the Bell Isle Chili’s. 
8.	Cathy Tuton gave an update about her training at LCB. She just completed her small meal that was supposed to be for 8 people but ended up being for 16. She served teriyaki chicken, salad, peach cobbler and more. Cathy has advanced to learning contractions in Braille. Still making progress in technology. Today, Cathy crossed the interstate in travel. She’s doing great.
9.	Chili supper will have to be on Saturday as usual. Sunday after service not an option. We are approved to use the church on January 14. 
10.	How Eye See It Campaign update. Foundation Fighting Blindness ended the campaign early  because of push back from the NFB. FFB did not reach their fundraising oal. The NFB is not opposed to the foundation and it’s blindness research, only the method they chose to gain publicity. 
11.	Bottom Dollar movie screening. We have the opportunity to screen a documentary on sub minimum wages. The film makers contacted the NFB during production and President Riccobono is featured in the film. We will follow up on arranging a screening.
12.	Rob Slaughterbeck reported on a dispute in the Tulsa area with the Sherriff’s office and the blind vendor in that facility.
13.	Motion to adjourn, 8:30 p.m.
