[Cinci-nfb] FW: Information about OOD Job Fair

Awesome! I'm glad Doug Mohr is still in play. Now-if it's appropriate to
ask-why have these job fares always been at the Sharonville Convention
Center? That's not a very accessible location. Neither is Goodwill! When I
went through the job placement process-and this was years ago-RSC had a
shuttle from Downtown to the Sharonville Convention Center. I remembered the
Consumer Advisory Council brought up the issue, and one person in particular
representing BSVI balked initially because he thought a shuttle from
Downtown was too costly.

When I see job fares like this, I always ask who from each company will be
attending the fare from the employer's side. If I need to go somewhere like
Sharonville or the SE Butler Chamber in West Chester, I always ask if there
will be people there who actually participate in hiring decisions. I can't
tell you how many times I've gone to places like Sharonville (or Columbus,
etc.) for job leads only to have some HR intern give me their cards (of
course, not in Braille) and refer me to a Web site and cordially invite me
to fill out an application.

I hope this is something the SRC will address now that we have our
candidates in place.

Thanks for sharing.

Chris

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
