Chicken Soup for the Soul: Running for Good

We are excited to once again be teaming up with Dean Karnazes, the
Ultramarathoner, on another special and exciting book about running. It is
well known that running conditions the body, but it is also great for
conditioning the mind, the soul, and the spirit. The title of this new book
on running has two meanings: running is good for your health and you can run
to do good for someone else by running to raise awareness of an issue or to
raise funds for a cause.

We are looking for true stories or poems of 1200 words or less, about all
aspects of running and stories about running to raise awareness of and funds
for a cause. Stories can be funny and quirky, or they can be serious and
heartwarming.

Here are some topics but we know you can think of many more:
  . Getting started
  . Keeping to it
. Running with friends or family
. How running has changed your life
. What you do while you're running -- thinking, listening, seeing
  . Training
  . Challenges and injuries
. Running when you travel for pleasure or business
  . Running in exotic locations
  . Races
  . Triathlons
  . Ultramarathons
  . Body image, self-confidence
  . Running changed my life
  . The camaraderie
. Running for a cause and to help people
. Were you cured of something by running?
. Running miracles, amazing coincidences, stories that will give us chills
  . Reaching your goals
  . Running therapy
. Running with your dog or other pets
. Coming back from failure, addiction, health challenges, mental illness
  . Running adventures
  . Family bonding
. Stories about races, marathons, other runners
. Stories about someone who inspired you
  . Meeting that famous runner!

All stories and poems need to be true - we do not publish fiction. Stories
should be no longer than 1,200 words. If your story was already published in
a past Chicken Soup for the Soul book, please do not submit it. We will not
publish it again. If you submitted a story to our previous Chicken Soup for
the Soul: Runners book title back in 2010 and we did not publish it, please
do submit it to us again so we will be sure to consider it for this new
title.

Please remember, we no longer publish "as told to" stories. Write your story
or poem in the first person. Do not ghostwrite a story for someone else
unless you list that person as the author. If a story was previously
published, we will probably not use it unless it ran in a small circulation
venue. Let us know where the story was previously published and the
approximate exposure it received in the "Comments" section of the submission
form.

If your story is chosen, you will be a published author and your bio will be
printed in the book if you so choose. You will also receive a check for $200
and 10 free copies of your book, worth more than $100. You will retain the
copyright for your story and you will retain the right to resell it or
self-publish it.

SUBMISSIONS GO TO OUR WEBSITE.
