[Colorado Gives Day Logo 2023] [1]When Jo began losing her vision in her
early 80s, she naturally grew concerned about how she would remain
independent. More than that, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to travel
to Austria again to see her children who live there. It was a lot to
process. Then she made contact with the Colorado Center for the Blind's
Older Blind Program. We provided her individual training, including with
the white cane, and ultimately she attended our week-long "Taking Charge"
program in 2022. That was her turning point. Five days living in our
apartments and learning effective nonvisual skills with four other students
gave her the confidence to continue her life as she had been. And that
means traveling to Austria on her own. She's done it twice now, including
coping with a canceled connecting flight and being stuck in Washington, DC
overnight. Jo says CCB taught her she can do anything and that's given her
the courage to make things happen.

Mural.]Speaking of making things happen, Jo tells of challenging herself to
get out on the dance floor at a wedding reception on one of her trips to
Austria. By her telling, despite initial reluctance, she took over the
dance floor! Well, we know Jo, and we don't doubt that story one bit.

We believe blind people can do anything without regard to age. In all of
our Older Blind services, as in all of our programs, we encourage and
challenge our students—and they come to understand their potential as
they build the skills and confidence to live the lives they want. Because
when you believe in yourself and experience a thriving community of
positive blind people, nothing can hold you back from pursuing your dreams.
