[Colorado-Talk] Help Us Reach Blind Teens - Independence Skills Fair Oct 30th

Dear Colorado NFB Family,

The National Federation of the Blind of Colorado 2025 Leadership Group is
excited to announce our Independence Skills Fair for Blind Youth. It will
take place on the Thursday of the State Convention, October 30, 2025, from
4:00-8:00 PM at the Westin Hotel, 10600 Westminster BLVD in Westminster.

This free event is designed specifically for blind students ages 12-18 who
attend mainstream schools. We'll be covering five essential independence
skill areas: kitchen safety and cooking, cutting-edge assistive technology
(including the Monarch Multi-Line Braille Display and Meta RayBan Smart
Glasses), orientation and mobility techniques, Braille literacy, and
adaptive recreation activities. Every instructor is a blind adult who has
mastered these skills themselves, and we'll wrap up with a free dinner at
MOD Pizza.

Here's where we need your help: Many blind teens in mainstream schools and
their families aren't connected to our community and may not know about
resources like this. We need your assistance getting the word out far and
wide.

We're asking you to share the attached flyers wherever blind teens, parents
of blind teens, teachers, or school personnel might see them:

. Post on social media and in parent Facebook groups 

. Share with vision teachers, school counselors, and special education
coordinators you know 

. Put up flyers at libraries, coffee shops, community centers, and bulletin
boards 

. Forward to friends, family members, or colleagues who work in education or
healthcare 

. Contact pediatric eye doctors, orientation and mobility instructors, or
anyone who works with blind youth

We've included four different flyers: a general version, one targeted to
teens, one for parents, and a condensed one-page version perfect for
slapping anywhere you can fit a piece of paper. Each includes a QR code that
takes people directly to our Eventbrite registration page. For the longer
fliers, you can just paste them into an email or social media post. If you'd

to you.

 

This event has the potential to be transformational for these young people -
giving them practical skills, confidence, and the chance to meet other blind
teens who understand their experience. But we can only succeed if families
know about it.

reach the blind teens who need to know that independence is possible and
that they're not alone.
