Hi all,
For those of you who are students, I know school is getting ready to start up for the fall. This got me thinking about something that the school I attended does each year in October. Webster University has a worldwide day of community service, called Webster Works Worldwide, for all of its global campuses. In September, Webster students, faculty, and staff can go on a Web site and sign up to take part in specific projects, including gardening, painting, reading to children, and tutoring, or they can do a project on their own. My friends and I have always gone to the Delta Gamma Center for Children with Visual Impairments, a local nonprofit, and Brailled books for children. Last year, we also worked on sorting and shelving Braille and audio books for Delta Gamma’s newly-established lending library. I think these college community service days are a great way for students to get involved and help their communities, and I encourage all of you who are going off to school this fall to see if your college has a program like this. For those of you who have participated in a college community service day, feel free to share your experiences.
