Hi Marianne,
I would suggest that you start with your local issues. Depending on how close you are from your state capital, find out when they go to meet the legislators. If you can go you will find it very interesting. Even going to local county council sessions can be interesting.
We the blind want to live the life of our choosing and do not want it to be controlled by others. We want to work and be tax payers. If we are stopped from these freedoms because there a lack of education about blindness in the employers, we will fight back.
We are not serving our own personal needs but making way for others to follow. We are doing a service to the community by being vocal about our situations.
Whether we do it as federation members or individuals, we are giving back to the community.

That is a great question. I have been totally blind all of my life and find many things to be inaccessible. I am extremely independent but, part of the way I am independent is by controlling my environment. I am thinking about getting involved in a political campaign though.
