Dors will be holding a parent day in Windsor from 10 to 3, Saturday, on
April 5th. Our national representative Natalie Shaheen, with Louisiana
center graduate, Kim Tindall, will be attending for the day if any of you
wish to attend.

See below,

Natalie Shaheen is the director of education at the National Federation of
the Blind Jernigan Institute. Ms. Shaheen is a special educator and a
teacher of the blind by training. She has been working with students with
disabilities in some capacity for over fifteen years. Ms. Shaheen has
extensive experience working with children with multiple and severe
disabilities as an educator, a home health care professional, a recreation
leader, and as an administrator. Ms. Shaheen has spoken and written broadly
about her passion for ensuring that blind children with additional
disabilities receive a high quality education. In an article entitled
"Without Exception: Teaching the Skills of Blindness to Children with
Additional
Disabilities<https://nfb.org/images/nfb/publications/fr/fr29/2/fr290203.htm>
", Ms. Shaheen summed up her teaching philosophy "We must never give up! It
is the job of the educator to find the proper strategy to teach a child; it
is not the job of the child to conform to traditional methodology!" In
addition to her professional experience, Ms. Shaheen has a lifetime of
living in the world as a blind person from which she draws expertise.
