[Ct-nfb] Mystic aquarium on november 8 please reply

Hi Rob,

I think it's a great idea for our affiliate members going out and having one last fun experience together before the convention weekend is over. This also caters to one of the advantages of being a small state because a higher percentage of our affiliate members will potentially be able to commute home that night after the aquarium visit if we so choose.

A common response to the idea of blind people visiting an aquarium or museum is something like "that's mostly a visual experience; how would the blind person benefit at all?" We still like to go to places like that, though, because there is still something to gain. We can still learn about the Bluefin Tuna and the Hammerhead Sharks. I know that I've been to Mystic Aquarium and other aquariums before, and I know that there are sometimes hands-on components, like the ones where visitors like to play with horseshoe crabs or starfish. A good tour guide, especially if they're briefed by a competent blind person ahead of time, can be a great component of a visit.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it because I might have to jet back to Louisiana, but I hope this turns out to be a great experience. I second the idea that we will want to make this visit accessible.

If it turns out that the tour guide is blind, I hope we can recruit that person for the forming New London County Chapter.

Take care,

Justin

Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.

Rob:
I am wondering if you have more info on the type of tour we will be going on? Also, is it accessible? Count me in as well.
Thanks,
Edward

Hello and happy summer to all my NFB friends! The state convention is quickly approaching. This year, I would like to do a little something different. After the board meeting on Sunday, I would like to take a trip to mystic aquarium. The tickets are $35 each, but if we have a group of 10 or more, the price is only $23. I need a head count so that we can get the tickets. When you come to the registration table on Saturday morning you will pay for the tickets. Please email me by august 15 so that I can put this into the convention's agenda. I think it will be a great time.
Thank you!
Rob
