Hi Justin , just to give new members some backroundf. NfB passed the pedestrian safety act , in 1908…. I was with Melley when our ct. members and others from other states passed it in Washington. I and Gary and Rob also attended Boston college , testing sounds and eliminating false sounds for the NFB. Much time has passed and it is time to enforce and get quiet cars off the road. Beth

Just to be clear, this is an initiative being promoted by Kim Charlson, and the NFB has yet to make an official statement.

I serve on the NFB committee on automobile and pedestrian safety, and we are talking about it within the committee now.

Dear Amy,

Will you <https://perkins.cmail20.com/t/d-l-xtijjhd-ykdrjyyhdt-t/> take 2 minutes today to help make the world a safer place for people who are blind and visually impaired?

Help us advocate to establish a consistent, recognizable sound for hybrid and electric cars.

Quiet, green cars are here to stay but they do pose one danger: silence. For anyone who can't see a car coming, they can be deadly. Sounds emitted by hybrid and electric vehicles should be clear, consistent and immediately recognizable.

Car makers are lobbying for a new rule allowing people to choose a custom sound for their silent vehicles. And while this is a creative idea, it will be inconsistent and confusing -- and therefore dangerous.

<https://perkins.cmail20.com/t/d-l-xtijjhd-ykdrjyyhdt-i/> Add your voice to Perkins' comment submission. We will use your comments to tell the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that we want a consistent, clear and recognizable sound for silent cars now -- the public comment period closes on November 1.

<https://perkins.cmail20.com/t/d-l-xtijjhd-ykdrjyyhdt-d/> Let's make green cars safer

On behalf of everyone at Perkins, thank you for joining us in making the world an accessible and safe place for everyone.

Sincerely,
