Social Security Scam Alert

SSI Recipients urged to use caution

 

April 1, 2022: Senior Resources* joins The State Unit on Aging and
Disability Services Department to inform area seniors of a SCAM alert
regarding bogus Social Security letters being mailed to Connecticut
residents.

 

Though these SCAM letters are similar in typeface and format to legitimate
Social Security Administration (SSA) letters and may contain actual
government signatures, recipients must be alert to several "red flags",
including:

*         threatening language

*        a weekend "appointment"

*        a phone number with an answering machine

 

Social Security recipients, especially SSI recipients, are urged to use
caution when replying to any SSA correspondence. As an alternative, they may
call a toll-free number 1-800-772-1213 and speak to a Representative
regarding their benefits. They may also safely check their benefits by
