Justin,

Thank you for forwarding this along! And feel free to do a little selling of Connecticut, too, and Central Connecticut, which I did to a couple of my own NFB contacts for their passing along. And, yes, I love the focus on Braille and the attitude and priorities at BESB that it, being the first item in the list of duties, indicates.

Your observation about the term “visually handicapped” is spot on. What do you think the most up-to-date and inclusive term should be? I’d likely go with “blind and low vision”, but I’m interested to know what you think as someone who works in the field everyday and sees a broad perspective.

Best,

Nathanael

I love the focus on braille!

I have forwarded this posting to a few lists where qualified people might find it.

If our affiliate leaders are ever in a situation to talk with policymaking folks at BESB, perhaps through the advisory committee or state rehabilitation council, I might suggest that we might talk about amending the language about students being “visually handicapped“ because I think it’s a little bit outdated.

Hope everyone is enjoying March madness!

Justin

Fellow Members and Friends,

Please see below for two teacher of blind students positions with BESB in central Connecticut. This is a great opportunity to immensely impact the education of many blind students—or for you to forward to someone you know who could. The deadline is April 2, so don’t delay.

Best,

Nathanael
