Hey Amy,
It's great seeing you on this list! There are a lot of great people here and
I have found the list to be very informative. I hope all is well with you,
your husband and your awesome dog too <smile>.
I did a quick Google search for more info on the Clever Check glucose meter.
I found it was available from a company called Simple diagnostics. The
actual name of the meter, Clever Check Auto-Code Voice, made me wonder if it
was the same meter as the Prodigy Auto-Code meter, the predecessor to the
Voice. They claim that verbal prompts guide you through the entire process
of checking your blood sugar. But, I can't help but wonder how helpful those
verbal prompts actually are. I have seen a couple of commercials for other
meters that supposedly verbalize your test results, but wonder if they are
as good as they seem to be.
Anyway, I am a bit skeptical of this meter, but suppose it could be
legitimate, and almost as good as the prodigy Voice. The url for the web
page that describes the meter is:
http://www.simplediagnostics.com/documents/78.html
I really love using the Voice and think it is the best meter I have ever
used that talks. I once thought the Accu-Check Voice Mate was king of the
heap, but I definitely think the prodigy Voice has surpassed that meter
because of it's size and portability, among other things.
I think I would try and fight to keep receiving test strips for the Prodigy
Voice as it is clearly the best meter on the market for blind diabetics and
the one you have used for quite some time and are happy with. Could you
check with your insurance carrier to see if there is another supplier that
can get the strips for you? There has got to be a way you can keep receiving
the strips, so, hopefully they can be of some help.
Have a great weekend,
Dave

Subject: [Diabetes-talk] Clevercheck swap
Hello All,
I've been testing with a Prodigy Voice since November 2008, and receiving my
strips from a mail order company. Yesterday when I called to order new
supplies, they informed me that they are no longer going to distribute the
Prodigy strips because, according to the customer service rep, they are too
difficult to obtain. She said that they will send me a Clevercheck, free of
charge. I , ever the cynic, asked many questions and was assured that the
Clevercheck has all of the same functions as the Prodigy Voice, except that
it does not announce the date when initially powered up. Because I've been
so happy with the Prodigy meter, I'm reluctant to give it up, but want to
give the Clevercheck a fair shot. Is anyone using the Clevercheck? What are
your opinions? If I try the Clevercheck and find that it isn't to my
satisfaction, does anyone know where I can reliably receive mail order
Prodigy Voice supplies?
Because I've read all the positive material written in "Voice of the
Diabetic" about the Prodigy model, and haven't heard anything on the
Clevercheck, I fear that my skepticism may be legitimate. I appreciate any
feedback on this subject.
In Gratitude,
Amy
