[Diabetes-talk] Can't Help But Crow!

Hi, Joe.

If you're on 70/30, you've probably been given a target of max carbs per day
and per meal. When on a fixed insulin regimen such as one uses with 70/30,
one adjusts the meal content to match the carb load your insulin mixture is
designed to handle. Between you, your CDE and your internist and/or endo,
you'll have to adjust the 70/30 morning and evening doses to keep your bg
readings in range. You aim for a fixed number of carbs for each meal
(approximate). With my insulin regimen which is called intensive or physical
management, I have to compute dosages at each meal -- some find this easy;
some find it tough. But my body changed and the 70/30 no longer was keeping
me in range.

You're absolutely right, though; insulin sure makes one feel better.

Mike

Thanks very much Mike for that tip. I will definitely read up on this. I
just recently started on insulin a few months ago using the 70/30 flex pen
so I am a relative novice when on topic. I do believe that insulin is a
much better choice than subjecting oneself to the extremely harsh and
harmful side effects of oral medications. I just need to learn to adjust
the appropriate levels of insulin to my specific situation.

Thanks again for the information.

Joe

Hi, Joe.

This time around, I was especially careful to give "correction boluses" to
bring my bg down to around 100 mg/dl two or three hours after a meal, at the
start of the next meal (not counting the carbs in that meal) or sometimes
before bed or first thing in the morning. See Gary Scheiner's "Think Like A
Pancreas", available from BARD, to learn how to do this.Remember, I'm on the
full intensive regimen with Humalog before each meal and lantus before bed.

Great going Mike! I am struggling just to keep mine below 7. Is there
anything you are doing differently to get your bg down this low?
