[Diabetes-talk] smart lancet

The market would be quite large were the cost of such a device sufficiently
low.

In fact, one such device already exists -- but it costs $400 or so and it's
not tiny; it's a box a few inches across and high with a small protuberance
that sticks out of the box under which you place the finger to be lanced. A
laser than burns a minuscule hole in the skin of the finger, presumably
burning the hole into a capillary so blood will ooze out. The device is
battery-operated but doesn't exactly fit in a pocket.

Subject: [Diabetes-talk] smart lancet

Remember I wrote earlier on this list about the need for a lancet that
wouldn't punch dry holes? Well as it turns out, I've been talking with an
inventor of dental and medical devices who has patents already in his
name. He says it is entirely feasible to make a lancet like this. He
needs to know if something like this were made, what would the market be
for such a lancet across the diabetic community. I met him accidentally,
turns out he works for the Dentist I now am with.
