[Diabetes-talk] Heads up on Dexcom app update.

Bern,

I understand where you are coming from, but so much is accessible on smart phones nowadays, for both blind and sighted users. Several apps allow me to do things independently like the KNFB Mobile app and the money reader app, which is much, much faster than the iBill money reader. Personally, if a company wants to make a device accessible through an app, I have no problem with it, However, I typically carry my phone with me everywhere. I'm not on it much in terms of social media or anything, but I do tend to carry it everywhere, including the bathroom or in the bedroom. So it wouldn't be a problem for someone like me to keep it nearby if the app required. The problem for me is when updates change the accessibility of the app. This is what discourages me from the Dexcum right now. Though I could really use a CGM, I hate to invest in something that could potentially become inaccessible in the future. But to be honest, no company seems interested in making diabetic technology accessible, so if it can be done through an app, I'm all for it. This would be amazing for pumps if an app were created, much like the CGM. But as we all know, no one currently has made diabetic equipment accessible except for the Prodigy meters. Plus, I think apps are the wave of the future, whether we like it or not.

You know Veronica, you described exactly why and how I refuse to use the decks calm… I would actually be more pleased with the device or something that doesn't depend on the use of my phone. We should be able to have devices that work independently without having to worry about oh!! This thing doesn't work with my phone. I won't be able to use it. No, that's not acceptable to me When my phone has to take me to the bathroom so that I can use it, wash my hands, does every other thing, it becomes not smart. To me, that's carrying this to the extreme. I don't want to have to use my meter or any other thing with my phone. I don't want them to be dependent on my phone.
