[Diabetes-Talk] Dexcom question and info.

Veronica,
I don't have any issues with my infusion set tape, but then I am
changing sets every two days. I should ask Dexcom about using the spray or
if they have any suggestions. You have to be careful what you put on your
skin prior to inserting the sensor, since it can cause a sensor failure. I
only know that, because I accidentally used one of the skin prep wipes
instead of an alcohol wipe one time, and my sensor failed before the two
hour session was up. I then realized what I had done. I used to use the
skin preps for my infusion sets. I ran out one time and just used alcohol
wipes, and I didn't notice one bit of difference.
Good luck with the grip tape thing. If it is like using contact paper, that
could be quite a challenge!
Jamie

Jamie, I had that discomfort problem with the OmniPod tape when I tried it.
Last week end I heard one person refer to using a steroid spray before
putting the tape on. I have no idea where to find such a thing but guess it
exists. My tape seems to have good and not as good batches. One box will
stick really well and another won't. I tried using the little bits of tape
and boy did that get messy for me. So I've been using this stuff called
Mepore to help hold my tape down. But it is a big pain in the butt to cut.
So I just have to get up the nerve to try these Grif grips. <grin> Stay
tuned!

I haven't tried a widget on anything, and I honestly don't know what they
are! I just keep my Dexcom app Open when I am following a low or high blood
sugar. Otherwise, I keep all of my apps closed.
As for extending the wear Time on the sensors, I don't think I would want to
do that. I am always looking forward to the day when I can change my sensor,
because my skin get so itchy around the area by day four or five. Most
weeks, the tape stays in place around my son sir. If I do notice some of the
tape lifting up, I just ripped off a small piece of surgical tape to put on
it. It is never the entire tape that has lifted off, so I wouldn't see a
need for the product that you are talking about using. I guess if you go
swimming though, the tape has more of a chance of coming off, right?
