[Diabetes-Talk] new member intro

Alyssa,

I’m using the Mini Medtronics Paradigm pump. I’m totally blind and don’t live with sighted help. The pump gives audio beeps when I give my bolis insulin, does a confirmation count back with beeps and once I okay the dosage it beeps a single time. If I escape out of something there is a tri-tone beep. And when I change the reservoir and infusion set there are beeps and beepish sounds at different points during the process so I can tell when the steps are going correctly or if I screwed up by pressing a button too many times. Sometimes I can escape my way out of it and other times I will take the battery out of the pump quickly and then insert them back in. Usually this sets me straight and other times I start making phone calls to see who is available to come over for a few minutes to straighten me out.

It would be so nice to have a reliable accessible pump. Even though there are times when its frustrating, my control is sooo much better with a pump than when on two different types of insulin and injections.

Thank you both for your welcome and introduction messages.

Eileen, what kind of pump do you use? I use an Animas Ping with a
OneTouch Ultra Mini glucose meter. I use my remaining vision to
operate both, but I've always wondered if there is a better, less
visual option. My pump has an audio bolus feature, which is helpful,
but most of the time I use magnification to read my pump's screen.

Thanks.

Alyssa
