[Diabetes-Talk] New talking pump

Joyce,
When I looked at this pump with one of the reps a year or so ago, my understanding was that the only way I would be able to give a bolus as a blind person was to use the external power button that allowed you to do the audio bolus feature, which has been available on the pumps f For many years. It was a technique where you pressed the button repeatedly to count out your dose in the preset amount, which in my case would have been 1/10 of a unit per press, and then the device would beep back to confirm. Then I was to depress the button to actually give the dose. In this way, I would’ve not been able to take advantage of the bolus wizard or , the smart guard feature that calculates your dose based on your current blood sugar. I had been doing this manual calculation and administration of boluses for many many years and did not feel that the 770 pump would make available to me any additional automated features that I wasn’t already using on my 723 pump.
Having a lot of the status of the pump available on the app however sounds like a great feature.
Patricia.

I am not using the pump to fullest yet, but it has stopped my low sugar going low enough that I pass out. It can detect when your blood sugar is dropping to quickly and or it is getting low. It basically stops the flow of insulin and will wait up to 2 hours coming back on when it is a normal range.
