[Dtb-talk] Flash Drive

There is actually a way to solve some of the flash drive issues. It involves writing a small XML file to your flash drive's root directory, which will instruct the player to not place the drive in "sleep mode", as some drives do not work right with that mode. The only consequence is potentially shortened battery life. As I'm currently on the road I don't have the info right in front of me, but i'll post it to the list later on. I'd like to hear if this does help the Transcend drive users.

Hi,
I have the very same FLASH drive and have the very same results. I know of five others who use flash drives on their players of all different brands and they have
not had this problem. Therefore, you and I are apparently the lucky ones to stumble upon an incompatible drive. <smile> The point here is that there isn't likely
anything you can do to get this drive to work. In my case, I was able to try another flash drive on the same player and it worked fine so I know the player is all right.
I wrote to NLS and at this point they are urging people to buy blank cartridges as the most reliable way of handling downloaded books. APH has 2 gig cartridges for
$12 or so, but one also needs a cable to connect them to a computer. The advantage, of course, is that you don't have anything sticking out as you do with a flash
drive on the side and a certainty of compatibility. You probably would also be all right trying a different brand of flash drive, though. I even tried reformatting my drive
but that didn't correct the problem.
Best regards,
Steve Jacobson
