Oh sure.  Just ask the friendly overseas-based Amazon customer service agent 
to transfer your call to somebody based in the US.  How can you verify that 
the person you are speaking to is actually based in the states and not in 
some third-world country?  You can't always tell from their accent.  Some of 
these bozos speak English well enough to fool you into believing that they 
are based in the states when in fact, they are actually based in some call 
center in Manilla or Bangalor or Monrovia.  And exactly what recourse do you 
have if you are unable to speak to a US-based service agent?  Dash off a 
complaint to Jeff Bezos?  He is supposedly a complete control freak on the 
order of Steve Jobs who doesn't give a rat's ass what other people think, 
and who couldn't care less about the special needs of blind consumers.
