[Electronics-Talk] Cable box Accessibility

Time Warner Cable, which recently merged with Charter Cable, has no plans to
offer accessible cable boxes any time soon. The fact is that the cable
companies really don't give a rat's ass about this impending deadline
because the penalties for non-compliance with the Telecommunications
Accessibility Act of 2010 are minimal to non-existent. And apparently, the
advocacy organizations don't care much, either, which is probably why there
was little mention about the deadline at the conventions. So what if the
cable companies pay nominal fines? This is chump change compared to the
cost of developing accessible boxes. So except for Comcast, it does not
appear that any of the other cable providers is prepared to offer accessible
boxes by the deadline.

Subject: [Electronics-Talk] Cable box Accessibility

hi all,
I just realized that the deadline for making Cable boxes accessible is fast
approaching, and I have not heard anything from other companies about their
plans. It looks like Comcast is the only company with a talking TV
interface. Has anyone heard from any of the other cable companies about
their plans to make their boxes accessible? I’m surprised that we didn’t
hear anything at Convention. On another note, I read on another list that
Comcast improved Voice Guidance so that it will now read notifications, such
as incoming phone calls and voicemails. Has anyone noticed this? It doesn’t
seem to be working on my system. I’m really impressed with what Comcast has
done, but it’s time for other companies to catch on.
Just my thoughts,
Cullen
