Stefan's Comment: The Words of the Prophets Are Written on the Subway Walls
>Jeremiah 14:13-14 "Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD!
>Behold, the prophets say to them, 'You shall not
>see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I
>will give you assured peace in this place.' And
>the LORD said to me, "The prophets prophesy lies
>in My name. I have not sent them, commanded
>them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a
>false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and
>the deceit of their heart. (NKJ)
>
>Back in the days of Jeremiah and the prophets,
>the people of Israel had the word of God, at
>least some of it. They had the books of Moses
>that include Gods instructions on the things
>that matter to Him and are close to His heart.
>God went into much detail in explaining what He
>does not approve of and what is an abomination
>in His sight. He also noted, on many occasions,
>that if the children of Israel do not walk in
>His ways and obey the voice of the Lord that He
>would punish them harshly and remove them from
>the land of inheritance that He had given to them.
>
>The children of Israel did much evil in the eyes
>of God such as (amongst many other things)
>worshipping other gods, sacrificing to them,
>burning incense to them and building alters to
>them. Gods word stated very clearly what would
>happen if the people performed these
>abominations. The false prophets in Jeremiah's
>time stood up and spoke directly against what
>God had said, and that despite all the evil that
>they were doing they would continue to prosper and dwell securely in the land.
>
>The true prophets of old, sent by God, were the
>ones who stood up and told everyone the bad
>news, or the news that no one wanted to hear
>that usually went something along the lines of
>"repent of your wicked ways, return to the Lord
>and He will forgive you, but if you continue in
>them He will kick you out of the land, smite you
>with the sword and so on...". These words were
>not listened to and the prophets who spoke them
>were persecuted and mocked instead. As Yeshua
>said in Matt 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the
>one who kills the prophets and stones those who
>are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather
>your children together, as a hen gathers her
>chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (NKJ).
>Paul also warned of such men who would rise up
>in the latter days in 2 Tim 4:3-4 "For the time
>will come when they will not endure sound
>doctrine, but according to their own desires,
>because they have itching ears, they will heap
>up for themselves teachers and they will turn
>their ears away from the truth, and be turned
>aside to fables.(NKJ) Obviously not much is new
>under the sun as King Solomon wisely said.
>
>Those fables that Paul is speaking about are the
>same fables, unsound doctrines and non-truths
>that the false prophets were declaring in the
>time of Jeremiah by saying to the people that
>they will have peace and be secure and prosper
>when the very word of God said the exact
>opposite about those who worshipped idols and did evil in the sight of God.
>
>Today it is not much different. There are many
>so called / self proclaimed 'prophets' walking
>around and declaring all kinds of 'words' that
>go directly against God's word. Prophecies are
>coming out saying that the world situation is
>going to get better or that God is going to
>restore and bless certain countries that very
>obviously not standing with or supporting
>Israel. There are many prosperity doctrines
>being proclaimed throughout the congregations of
>the world and many people are buying into them.
>I believe that God wants to bless us and give us
>the best (which in many cases His best is a
>little different from our best. The 'best' car
>for me is a Ferrari but God's best car for us
>may be something a little different - see Isaiah
>55:8-9 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
>nor are your ways My ways...") but still God's
>word is very clear on what is going to happen in
>the world, and to believers in particular,
>during the end days. Persecution, death and
>tribulations. Nations that deal unjustly with
>Israel will be judged harshly (even thought in
>many cases it is God Himself who prompts those
>nations against Israel in the first place), not prosper.
>
>Amongst all these terrors we also have hope.
>Yeshua said not to worry about these things
>because He has overcome the world and in the
>book of Daniel (11:32) it is written that those
>who know their God will carry out great
>exploits. Times are becoming darker and we need
>to be able to discern between what comes from
>God and what is of the flesh, or, the deceit of
>our own hearts. God's word is our standard and
>the light unto our feet and everything is to be
>measured by it along with the Holy Spirit who
>helps us to walk in all truth. God, through His
>spirit, also gives us a spirit of discernment so
>that we can see what is from Him and what is
>not, as God's Ruach (Spirit) cannot go against His own word.
>Now is the time to burrow deep into the word of
>God, to place His truths as the foundations of
>our lives and allow His sprit to sharpen us so
>that the evil one will not be able to deceive us in these perilous times.
The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by
standing in defense of her right to exist on the
land given to th Jewish people by the God of
Israel Lets pray that Israel will turn back to
their God. Do not be silent, but share this with
your fellow Christians, share it with your
pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to
speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to
the Muslims, and please remember to pray for our
son Jordan, and all of his fellow soldiers in the IDF.
Shabbat Shalom .... David & Josie
THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS
1. Israeli Lightly Wounded As Rocket Barrage Hits
Negev Har Aretz News Nov 14th
A barrage of rockets fired from the Gaza
Strip exploded in the western Negev on Friday
morning, leaving one Israeli lightly
wounded. The strikes began in the early hours
of Friday when eight Qassams exploded in and
around the southern city of Sderot. Another five
rockets, claimed by Hamas to be of the Grad type,
struck Ashkelon a few hours later. One Israeli
suffered shrapnel wounds and another four were
treated for shock after the first eight rockets
exploded in Sderot and in a kibbutz nearby. Two
of the rockets that hit Sderot damaged local
buildings. Immediately after the initial
barrage, an Israel Air Force air craft fired a
missile at a rocket-launching area in the
northern Gaza Strip, wounding two gunmen.
The two gunmen named as members of the Islamic
Jihad militant group. Hamas claimed
responsibility for all of the rockets fired on
Friday. Meanwhile, Israel on Thursday delivered
a message to Hamas via Egyptian intermediaries
indicating that while it has no interest in
escalating tensions along the Gaza border, it
would retaliate against any attempt by the
Islamist group to carry out attacks.
2. Ceremonies Around the World Remember
Kristallnacht Jerusalem Post Nov 9th
More than 150 Jewish communities across
Europe kept the lights of their local synagogues
on overnight Sunday, as the Jewish world marked
the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht - the Night
of the Broken Glass. The notorious 1938 Nazi
pogrom was the first in a series of violent riots
that effectively began Nazi Germany's attempt to
destroy European Jewry. During November 9-10,
1938, hundreds of synagogues and Jewish homes
were burned down, tens of thousands of Jews were
arrested and deported to concentration camps, and
over 90 Jews were murdered. The World Zionist
Organization initiative, calling on rabbis and
community leaders turn on all the lights in their
synagogues - as well as to light candles and
torches - was meant to commemorate the pogrom in a highly symbolic way
3. With Obama at Helm, Iranian Threat Looms Large Israel Today News Nov 9th
With President-elect Barack Obama ready to
assume power in the most powerful nation on
earth, Israel faces the grave prospect of a
nuclear Iran. Barry Rubin, director of the Global
Research in International Affairs Center, says he
is worried about Obamas stated intention to
conciliate with our enemies, not support our
friends. That worries me a great deal. Rubin
said that while the Israeli-Palestinian situation
is not likely to be vastly affected by any
American president, the more serious threat is a
nuclear Iran and the extremely serious strategic
challenge which affects 20 countries or more. We
have every reason to believe that [Obama] will
take a relatively soft approach, whether or not
he holds direct negotiations or indirect
negotiations with Iran, Rubin told a news
briefing in Jerusalem last week. We cannot
expect that he will take a tougher line on
sanctions and pressures, and he will not persuade
Tehran that hes going to do so. This will have
the predictable effect that the Iranians are
going to push ahead on nuclear weapons as fast as
they have with much less concern over the consequences.
While Israeli leaders welcomed Obamas
election and said they expect the special
strategic relationship between the two countries
to continue, signs of strain quickly emerged. A
day after the election, Foreign Minister Tzipi
Livni publicly condemned Obamas plans to talk to
Iran. We live in a neighborhood in which
dialoguein a situation where you have brought
sanctions, and you then shift to dialogueis
liable to be interpreted as weakness, Livni
said. Asked if she supported the US dialogue with
Iran, Livni replied: The answer is no.
Some Israelis are jealous of a charismatic figure
that galvanized a nation, a dynamic missing in
Israeli politics. As Israel heads toward its own
elections, no such visionary leader has risen
up. But others expressed misgivings about
Obamas policies toward Israel. An editorial in
the right-wing Israel National News said Obamas
readiness to sit down with an adversary comes
from his limited experience in international
affairs. One who surrenders and retreats in hopes
of gaining a little peace places his own survival
in jeopardy, the editorial said. Such has been
Israels experience at least since the year 2000,
and such will be the experience of the United
States if it sacrifices the interests of its
allies in the pursuit of facile and elusive
solutions. More cause for concern came from
the Arab press. The Lebanese newspaper al-Ahbar
reported that Obama told Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas in secret that he supports a
Palestinian state and Arab rights to East Jerusalem.
4. Livni Rejects Olmert's Call for Total
Surrender Israel Today News Nov 11th
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, head
of the ruling Kadima Party, distanced herself on
Tuesday from remarks by caretaker Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert to the effect that Israel should meet
nearly all Arab territorial demands. Livni told
Army Radio that Olmert's positions regarding the
peace process are today irrelevant, and that she
will not allow the deposed prime minister to
influence the policy decisions of the next
government to be elected in February. A day
earlier Olmert used a memorial ceremony marking
the 13th anniversary of the assassination of
former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin as a platform
to push his defeatist positions. "We must
concede parts of the homeland we have prayed for
and dreamt of for generations," said Olmert. "We
must relinquish Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem,
and return to that territory which comprised the
State of Israel until 1967, with the necessary
amendments stemming from the realities created on ground."
Olmert's critics on the Right, meanwhile,
pointed out that Olmert was grossly
misrepresenting the legacy of Rabin, whose own
political doctrine far more closely resembled
that of right-wing leader Benjamin Netanyahu and
his colleagues. In his final Kenesset speech
just days before he was murdered, Rabin stated
forcefully that Israel "will not return to the
June 4, 1967 lines." Rabin also pledged that he
would never surrender any part of Jerusalem to
the Palestinian Authority, nor "uproot a single
settlement in the framework of the interim agreement."
5. Netanyahu Will Halt Land-or-Peace Process
After All For Zions Sake News Report Nov 12
The office of Likud Party and Knesset
opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday
clarified that if elected prime minister in
Israel's upcoming general election, he will halt
the current land-for-peace process with the
Palestinians, despite reports this week to the
contrary. Netanyahu spokeswoman Dina Libster
confirmed to the Associated Press that the Likud
leader had plans to put territorial negotiations
on hold and focus on helping the Palestinians
stabilize and grow their economy. Libster said
Netanyahu views the land-for-peace negotiations
that have been going on for over 15 years, and
accelerated over the past year by US President
George W. Bush, as a dismal failure. "Netanyahu
does not want to halt talks, but he believes it's
premature to talk about a final peace deal, and
sharing control of Jerusalem is out of the
question," Libster said. She noted that the
Palestinians regularly point to their economic
plight source of their terrorist tendencies, and
so obviously that situation must be remedied
before any viable agreement on other issues can be reached.
Earlier this week Israeli media reported that
Netanyahu had apparently backtracked on his
position after meeting with and coming under
pressure from international peace envoy Tony
Blair and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
6. Israel Infuriated by U.K. Plan to Label West
Bank Produce Ha Aretz News Nov 14th
Relations between Israel and Britain
remained strained on Thursday over Downing
Street's intention to label products manufactured
in West Bank settlements, a week before the
expected arrival of British Secretary of State
for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, David
Miliband, to the Middle East. Miliband, who
will visit Israel, the Palestinian Authority,
Syria and Lebanon next week, is expected to talk
to Israeli officials over the settlements in the
West Bank and his country's proposed plan to
label products manufactured in them. "This
initiative is a serious and substantial problem
in relations between the two countries, and is
generating a sense of crisis," a senior diplomat in Jerusalem said.
7. Obama's Fictitious Pro-Israel Team by Jan Markell
There is a saying in the Jewish community,
"But is it good for for the Jews?" Thus, many
are asking, will the Obama administration be an
asset or liability for Israel? While many
Christians place little interest or importance on
this, this ministry does. Much is being made of
several Jews who are now a part of the Obama
administration. Some seem to think that a few are
very pro-Israel Jews and that we will thus see a
new course of American-Israeli relations. I hate
to burst bubbles but they are dead wrong. he
Israeli newspaper Israel National News reports
that Obama hired a number of Jewish advisors who
are quite critical of Israel, are anti-Israel
(yes, some Jews are critical of Israel), and are
in fantasyland about the Saudi Arabian peace
intentions. Those include Dennis Ross, Dan
Kurtzer, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Tony McPeak, Susan
Rice, Martin Indyk, and several more. These spell
serious problems for Israel. Then there is
Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emmanuel. He was the key
person in the Clinton administration to make Oslo
happen in 1992 and 1993. So we have a group of
Jewish advisors, some of them Jewish, who are
unfriendly to Israel's settlement policies in
Judea and Samaria, also known as the West Bank and eager to divide Jerusalem.
8. UK's Brown: Now is the Time to Build Global Society Nov 10th
The international financial crisis has
given world leaders a unique opportunity to
create a truly global society, Britain's Prime
Minister Gordon Brown will say in a keynote
foreign policy speech on Monday. In his annual
speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet, Brown -- who
has spearheaded calls for the reform of
international financial institutions -- will say
Britain, the United States and Europe are key to
forging a new world order. "The alliance
between Britain and the U.S. -- and more broadly
between Europe and the U.S. -- can and must
provide leadership, not in order to make the
rules ourselves, but to lead the global effort to
build a stronger and more just international
order," an excerpt from the speech says.
Brown and other leaders meet in Washington next
weekend to discuss longer term solutions for
dealing with economic issues following a series
of coordinated moves on interest rates and to
recapitalize banks in the wake of the financial crisis.
"Uniquely in this global age, it is now in
our power to come together so that 2008 is
remembered not just for the failure of a
financial crash that engulfed the world but for
the resilience and optimism with which we faced
the storm, endured it and prevailed," Brown will
say in his speech on Monday evening. "...And if
we learn from our experience of turning unity of
purpose into unity of action, we can together
seize this moment of change in our world to
create a truly global society." According to a
summary of the speech released by his office,
Brown will set out five great challenges the
world faces. These are: terrorism and extremism
and the need to reassert faith in democracy; the
global economy; climate change; conflict and
mechanisms for rebuilding states after conflict;
and meeting goals on tackling poverty and disease.
