An interesting sidelight to this whole scenario was that at the time I took training to become a Eucharistic minister, Father Ty Hollinger, who was a Deacon who ministered to both Dr. and Mrs. Jernigan when Dr. Jernigan was terminally ill really showed our rather nervous pastor that it could be done effectively.  Now it's rather common place so I'm able to continue the "family tradition" just like my dad and my mom who is still doing it in her retirement community.
