In Kenosha Wisconsin your two choices are to call the congregation and find a ride or walk. It's ridiculously expensive to take a cab anywhere. As far as paratransit is concerned it's my understanding that nationwide if regular transit doesn't run, paratransit doesn't run. Most places in the state of Wisconsin have no transit on weekends bus this would not be a solution for us. I hope you can find a solution Rob. Unless you find some special connection there, I would suggest finding another congregation that feeds you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The only reason I thrive in my dying congregation is because I have been there for so many years. The point brought out that sometimes a congregation has so many people who struggle to get around them selves they're not able to offer something to others. It's not so much that they don't want to, but there are embarrassed that they can't be as reliable as you need. Being new doesn't always help here either. Have you considered meeting your pastor for coffee somewhere and hashing things out? I know it my congregation any new members are matched up with a "Shepherd" who is kind of your Faith buddy. Not only are they someone you're actually paired up with to learn what the congregation offers and get you involved, but they are also that single person that kind of helps you get to know others and connect. Our congregation tries to match up people of similar and trust and faith stories together so they can relate and bond. They've learned over the years that if you have one friend you're more willing to stay. They do this with anyone, so it's not anything different they'd do for someone with a disability. Even if the pastor can connect you with a couple of people in your part of the community that you might be able to call and get a ride with would be great. I'm trying to get my congregation to have a ride to list because we cannot afford to have their own van or bus to go pick up people who cannot drive. As our older congregation members are either passing away or unable to drive themselves, I see this as coming down the pike. Right now the elderly seem to pick up their friends who cannot drive anymore.
If nothing else, pull on your pastor the "when you do this for the least of these, you do this for me ". They probably just never thought about it that way. Keep us updated and I hope for a positive outcome.

We can a certain amount of money load a month to get specific dollar amounts loaded on a cab card that we can use and the city we're subsidizes the rest. It does help some. have you looked in to such a thing? it might be worthy it.
