[Home-on-the-range] disappointing news

Rob and listers,

Thanks Cindy! I also look forward to hearing Susie's comments on Jack's
federation history when she returns. Here is some little bit that I know.
In the late 40's the Kansas Association became the Sunflower Federation.
Jack became a member during the 1950's. During the civil war period the
Sunflower federation dissolved and for about 7 years the reformed KAB was
the only game in town. As I understand it Jack & Martha along with Raymond
& Beth Graber were some of the only voices in the wilderness during this
time. There must have been some others. but as it was relayed to me. Ramona
Walhof came to Kansas in 1968 to reorganize a state affiliate and after
finding no one in the Wichita area she went to Kansas City where she found
Jack and Raymond. The new state affiliate was formed and became the NFB of
KS Inc. Dick Edlund credited Raymond and Jack for getting him interested in
the civil rights struggle of the blind and rest is history. As I recall
Jack was a machinist at the Fairbanks company during these years.

I hope this fills in some gaps. Hopefully Susie can fill us in
more thouroughly upon her return. I regret that will not be able to attend
Jack's service but will thinking of him during my shows this weekend.

Thanks,

Tom

Though I only know of Jack Kelly by name, I would like to know more of his
contribution to the organization oover the years and do encourage anyone
with such information to give us our history lesson on the legacy of Jack
Kelly.

Best to all

Hi, Meg:

Jack Kelly is the husband of the NFB of Kansas state treasurer, Martha
Kelly. He has been ill for a really long time and so we haven't seen him in
a long time. Martha has tried to stay as active as possible with us, as she
knows how important the Federation was to Jack. So there you have it!

Not to sound stupid but who is or was Jack Kelly. I never heard of him.

Hello everyone,

I need to let everyone know that I will not be available for our cultural
dinner this Saturday, therefore my house will not be available to be the
location to host the dinner. I received word this morning that our long
time member Jack Kelly passed away in the night. The tentative funeral
plans are the viewing will be held Friday evening and the funeral will be on
Saturday. Jack was a good friend and a good mentor. I will be attending
his funeral and if anyone would like to attend with me please call and let
me know and I'll make transportation arrangements.

Warmest regards,

Donna
