[humanser] Director of Residential Services?

hi,
you can go to school for doing rt? Really. How many years was that, sarah,
if you were in school for that?
I did not realize there was a degree for that; some schools offer a
theraputic recreation degree and of course there is adapted physical
education, but those are different than RT I think.
NC is a nice place to work, right by the school for the blind. If I visit
that area, perhaps I'll pay you a visit at the center.

Dr. Chappell,
Honestly, I chose RT because at the time I didn't want to be in school for
six years to become a PT. I fell in love with the field while in school,
and have been doing it ever since 2004.
Practicing in Blind Rehab was a different story. I fought to get my
position upgraded to a RT position for more then five years, and it finally
was with career banding across the state. Now, I am one of two Recreational
Therapists who work at he NC Rehab Center for the Blind.
Hope this helps

Sarah,
Curiosity, what took your interest to RT and how long have you been in
practice? I know your post was seeking opportunity resources and my hope is
that the list will support that. I am intrigued by Recreational Therapy as I
also work with RT professionals on the multidisciplinary team at the
hospital. It can be powerful for self and others to discuss options in the
broad range of Human Service disciplines and applications. Hope my question
does not feel intrusive.
Genuinely,
Mary Tatum Chappell, Psy. D.

Thanks JD. I wish more people understood the value of RT.

important member on any team. I have worked for years with RTs in a number
of situations, but never in Blind Rehab work, so I've forwarded your request
to someone who should know. I hope she gets back to you in person, if not
we can have a discussion on this list.

of recreational activities are offered at these facilities? Are there any
Recreational Therapists doing therapeutic activities?
