Registration for the Braille Readers Are Leaders contest opened on November 1, and it continues until the contest closes on January 18. In order to take part, simply keep track of how many Braille pages you read during the contest period and submit your reading log at the end. Cash prizes will be awarded in each grade category for K-12 students, and there is a popular category for adults as well.

Taking part in the contest is a great way to challenge yourself and build your Braille reading speed and accuracy. You may remember that Illinois helped revive the contest and kept it alive for several years. Now the contest is administered by the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults. You can sign up by visiting Actionfund.org/bral.

Several students and adults from Illinois have signed up already and begun counting their pages, but let's raise our participation even higher. What better way to spend a winter evening that to settle down with a good book? Braille readers are leaders!
