Madison Stadium Express tips off Oct. 11

The Bulls and Blackhawks brought championships to Chicagoland, so it's only fair that Pace brings the residents of Chicagoland to Bulls and Blackhawks games and other events at the United Center. Three new express routes comprising the Madison Stadium Express debut October 11, shuttling fans from Pace Park-n-Ride lots in Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Bolingbrook and Burr Ridge on select weekend dates through April 11.
"Our Express Service to Popular Destinations has proven popular with fans of the Bears, Cubs, White Sox, Fire and other special events, so it made sense that we look into serving events at the United Center," said Pace Chairman of the Board Richard Kwasneski. "These routes are a convenient and money-saving alternative to driving and parking at the stadium and a great way for people who may not be regular Pace riders to try our service."
Route 285 provides direct service between the United Center and the Pace Northwest Transportation Center in Schaumburg. Route 286 operates to/from the Pace Park-n-Ride adjacent to the Buffalo Grove Metra Station, and Route 287 serves the United Center from Pace Park-n-Rides in Bolingbrook and Burr Ridge. Pace staff worked with the Bulls and Blackhawks to study where larger concentrations of season ticket holders reside to determine boarding locations for the routes.
In addition to Bulls and Blackhawks games, events served include concerts, the circus, and family-oriented performances. Select dates have more than one event scheduled at the United Center, so customers should consult the route schedule posted online at PaceBus.com to determine which event will be served. Fares are $4.00 per rider in each direction, payable on board the bus using cash (exact fare required) or Ventra Cards and contactless debit or credit cards. Reduced and free fares are available to eligible customers. Parking at each of the Park-n-Ride lots is free. Save even more on commuting expenses

Gas prices may be down a bit from earlier in the year, but that doesn't mean that families living with one less car using transit to commute aren't still saving thousands of dollars annually.
APTA, the American Public Transportation Association, compiles the Transit Savings Report on a monthly basis. The latest from APTA found that gas prices nationally have been fluctuating lately and points out that by using transit, commuters can not only restore ease and consistency when budgeting for transportation costs but also save money. The September report lists Chicago as having the fifth highest potential savings for transit riders at an estimated $991 for the month of September and annual savings of nearly $11,897. Both figures are considerably ahead of the national averages, meaning that using public transportation in Chicagoland offers a considerably better value for commuters versus driving, especially when paying for parking.
The report compares the cost of a monthly transit pass with various car ownership costs including fuel, maintenance and parking using a series of averages and assumptions determined by AAA. To calculate your own potential savings with or without car ownership, please visit www.publictransportation.org.
