[il-talk] Primary Election Day

I voted early last Friday, March 16. The gentleman first handed me the form
to fill out. I recounted my previous experiences voting early with the
Chicago Board of Elections. I offered to show him my ID, since I obviously
voted out of my ward and precinct. He initially refused to see the card and
fill out the form. I asked him what other blind people do. He replied that
they bring assistants. I countered that the Help America Vote Act does not
have that requirement. He then filled out the form, I signed it, he
returned with the correcting card corresponding to my ward, precinct,
Congressional and State Legislative Districts. I then voted quietly, using
an accessible voting machine.

Cordially, Steve

Thank goodness for the board of elections. I have voted in the same precinct
since accessible voting equipment appeared on the scene. Even now voting is
an adventure. I am more convinced than ever after this last election that
either the training is woefully inadequate, or those who serve as judges
simply don't pay attention to the training offered.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for Tuesday.
