Renée will give us an update on the Merc Community Program fund raiser at a later meeting.

Rob gave a presentation on the NFB and our chapter at the city commission meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 2. He also talked about the trivia night fund raiser. The mayor read and signed a proclamation proclaiming Oct. as “meet the blind month”.

Rob and Renée had an interview on KLWN radio. This went very well, and they are invited to come back after the state convention to talk about our legislative priorities.

Pat reported on his experience at the Oregon state convention.

State Report: Tom Anderson attended the KRS advisory committee. They agreed to adopt the recommendation of the Committee on Services for the Blind regarding appropriation of disability benefits as a kind of co-pay for rehabilitation training. The plan was to take nothing for training, but to take 30% for residential living expenses. This is awaiting Mike Donnelly for consideration.

This state convention will be our 50th anniversary of the state affiliate of the NFB of Kansas. The convention will Start Friday afternoon with a Tech workshop from 1:30-4:30. Mika Pyyhkala from Envision will MC. Some topics covered will be AIRA, Google Voice, Android, and Rob will talk on making Siri a better secretary. There will be hospitality Friday evening. Convention speakers and activities take place all day Saturday followed by a banquet and band called Keefer Madness. Sunday morning is a business meeting.

Registration in advance is $5 or $10 at the door. The luncheon is $15, and the banquet is $30. To reserve a room, call the hotel. Some state funding is available for new participants.

Old Business: We decided to hold our meetings on the second Monday of the month from 4:00-6:00 at the library with a quarterly social.

New Business: Brendy will contact Johnny’s Bar and Grill about having our holiday social there on Monday, Dec. 10 from 4:00-7:00 PM.

The following officers were elected by acclamation: Rob Tabor, president; Renée Morgen, vice-president; Tamara Kearney, secretary; Brendy Latare, treasurer.

The Buckners came toward the end of the meeting, and Steve explained how trivia night works, and answered questions.

The meeting adjourned at around 6:00.

Respectfully Submitted,
