The Minnesota Department of Corrections would like you to join our agency of dedicated staff working to transform lives for a safer Minnesota. Our Togo facility is nestled in the beautiful upper northern region of Minnesota, near Pine Island, George Washington, and Kabetogama State Forests. Potential telework options may be available for this position.

This position will assist the Regional Human Resource Director in administering the human resources responsibilities for the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Togo.

This vacancy is being announced at two different job classification levels: Human Resources (HR) Specialist 1 and HR Specialist 2. Only one position will be filled, and the final job classification of the position will be determined based on the selected finalist's qualifications.

Job responsibilities include:

- Consult with facility managers and supervisors in the implementation and administration of collective bargaining agreements/plans so that management rights are protected, and labor relations are effective.
- Conduct assigned investigative inquiries. Advise managers and supervisors regarding procedures and requirements concerning investigations of employment misconduct.
- Provide professional guidance and assistance to managers, supervisors, and employees regarding complicated worker's compensation claims, return to work and light duty programs as well as Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests and other leave programs including requests for paid and unpaid leaves of absence. Ensure compliance with state statutes, federal law, and employment related practices.
- Represent the Regional HR Director in his/her absence and provide direction on day-to-day operations of the Human Resource Office at the facility, as needed.
- Assist with orientation of new employees, scheduling and coordination of training programs and instructors, providing instruction to staff, providing facility staff with information about training activities and policies, securing training and meeting space, and maintaining training records at the facility.
- Complete special assignments and perform other duties as needed.
