ABOUT THE POSITION
This Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) position exists to provide exemplary customer service to students with disabilities who make accommodation requests. This employee responds to general college or accommodation questions, implements OSD intake/interview appointments, and assists with other accommodation and programmatic questions, based on disability law and best practices. This employee triages the OSD testing accommodation process including organizing paperwork, tracking individual testing rooms, and as a proctor. In addition, this staff member is the front-facing employee organizing and implementing most other OSD accommodation requests including note taking, audio books, student meetings, and assistive technology. This employee enters all data and accommodation information into the department data base, SMART.
Minimum Qualifications
* Associate's degree in education, social services, psychology, or related area AND
* One academic year of experience in disability services, special education or assistive technology at the high school level or above OR
* An equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred Qualifications
* Three - five years of experience in postsecondary disability services or assistive technology including experience with the legal requirements of the Americans with Disability Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
* Understanding of the use of assistive technologies sufficient to engage in creative problem-solving for individual student needs
* Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and tactics with ability to utilize in a high-stakes environment
* Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in a busy office environment
* Demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds
* Strong written and oral communication skills including ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community members
* Ability to use strong customer service skills on the phone, in person, and online to provide effective communication and service to all constituents
* Ability to independently coordinate multiple tasks and respond to a wide range of situations in an organized manner
Other Requirements
* Provide on-campus coverage to the OSD office 4 days per week
Additional Requirements
Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
