Job Summary
In this position, you will provide education support and guidance to Minnesota's broader educational communities, including students with disabilities, with concentration on students with low incidence disabilities and a specific focus on students who are blind or visually impaired (B/VI), deafblind or with other disabilities co-existing with vision loss. Duties will include providing leadership and innovation in:
Special education programs and services for children and youth with disabilities;
Supporting schools, interagency partners, families and other stakeholders regarding strategies and activities to support access to a free, appropriate public education for students who are blind or visually impaired, deafblind or have disabilities co-existing with vision loss;
Implementation of federal and state statute and rules relating to the provision of increased educational opportunities and services for children who are blind, visually impaired, deafblind or with multiple disabilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of professional experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, deafblind or have disabilities co-existing with vision loss
OR
A bachelor's degree and 4 years of related professional experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, deafblind or have disabilities co-existing with vision loss
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in special education
* Holds a license to teach students who are blind or visually impaired (TBVI)
* Holds certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
* Experience in supervision or coordination of special education services
