As Director of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, you will
have a critical role in driving the mission of the Division of
Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). You will empower people with

Your leadership will ensure the provision of personalized vocational
rehabilitation counseling and employment services, removing barriers

Secretary's Executive Cabinet and reporting to the DSHS Secretary, you

DSHS' Division of Vocational Rehabilitation's mission is to transform
lives by assisting individuals with disabilities to participate in
their communities through meaningful employment. DVR employs over 300
people and has a biennial budget of approximately $164 million that
funds all service delivery, operational, and administrative costs.

Our Future Leader

The successful candidate will have a strategic mindset with the
ability to identify emerging trends and opportunities in the field of
vocational rehabilitation. They should be able to develop and
implement long-term strategies for program growth.

  Primary priorities:

·        Establish the vision and provide the leadership to direct,
guide, and support the division in fulfilling its mission to meet or
exceed all federal and state VR service delivery outcomes and
performance measures
·        Develop relationships with federal, state, and local
agencies, elected officials, disability community organizations, and
other stakeholders; this will include assigning DVR staff to key
leadership roles
·        Serve as an ex-officio member of the Washington State
Rehabilitation Council (WSRC) and State Independent Living Council
(SILC)
·        Approve policies, procedures, and internal controls to comply
with appropriate laws, regulations, and guidelines.
·        Approve the annual allocation of funds for client services,
staffing, and administrative costs
·        Ensure the division fulfills its role as a Core Program of
the state Workforce Development System; submit the VR State Plan
establishing goals, activities, and assurances for receiving federal
VR funds
·        Motivate and maintain an engaged workforce that is
well-trained, diverse, and qualified

Education and Experience:

·        Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation, Psychology, Human
Services, Business, or a related field.
·        Master’s degree or terminal degree in a related field preferred.
·        Seven years of experience supporting a vocational
rehabilitation agency or similar workforce development program, aiding
individuals with disabilities or other barriers in securing
competitive employment.
·        Demonstrated leadership in successfully administering
services or programs for individuals facing barriers to employment.
·        Experience in team management, results-directed leadership,
effective communication, and problem-solving.
·        Proven success in collaborative work in a political
environment with various stakeholders, including elected officials,
state agencies, local governments, Tribal leaders, community-based
organizations, and advocacy groups.
·        Professional experience managing, allocating, and expanding a
significant and complex budget.
·        Expertise in researching, evaluating, assessing, and
providing informed recommendations to executive-level leadership on
significant, critical, and often highly classified issues and
initiatives.
