Job Summary
State Services for the Blind, SSB, offers tools and training for employment and for helping seniors remain independent and active. As Minnesota's accessible reading source, we also transcribe books and other materials into alternative formats, including audio and braille. We assist Minnesotans who are blind, DeafBlind, losing vision, or who have another disability that makes it difficult to read print.
Responsibilities:
* Coordinate SSB's portion of the Combined State Plan under the Workforce Opportunity and Innovation Act (WIOA)
* Designing, developing, implementing and monitoring a comprehensive outreach plan
* Monitor federal and state guidelines and regulations to ensure that management is apprised of developments, requirements are met, and programs are implemented
* Be an SSB ambassador by creating communications and messaging that is consistent with directions from the Department

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and/or preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relations with a wide variety of people and backgrounds.
Oral and written communications skills sufficient to explain sensitive, controversial decisions to staff and leaders in a clear and concise manner.
Public and professional speaking skills.
Ability to analyze problems sufficient to develop creative solutions and alternatives.
Project management experience.
Incumbent must maintain valid driver's license, & insurance, OR have other reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations or other closely related field as determined by the agency
Skill communicating in a secondary language.
Experience in outreach.
Working with people who are blind, Deafblind, or visually impaired.

This position requires an Adjustment to Blindness immersion training program. The immersion experience helps new employees understand what's possible for people who are blind, DeafBlind or visually impaired by allowing them to experience it for themselves. The training takes place at an Adjustment to Blindness training center and can run up to 6-7 weeks.
