AFB is seeking a part-time Research Fellow to join our Public Policy and Research Institute during the summer and fall of 2024 (approximately July 8-December 22, 2024). AFB Research Fellows are current graduate students or recent graduates who receive mentorship and publication opportunities while assisting with current research activities. This is a part-time (5-10 hours per week), grant-funded Research fellowship with end date of December 31, 2024. The successful candidate will be paid from grant restricted funds and must be blind or have low vision. This position reports to the Director of Research.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include providing support in completing research tasks including:

  *   Support research design, data collection, data analysis, and report writing for one or more research studies examining interactions between artificial intelligence technologies and people who are blind or have low vision.
  *   Assist with a survey investigating wayfinding app use and preferences of travelers who are blind or have low vision.
  *   Support or lead analyses of existing data and preparation of research manuscripts.
  *   Support program evaluation activities.
  *   Assist the AFB research department in building strategic relationships with potential research participant pools and academic research partners.
  *   Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled or recently graduated (within the past five years) from a master’s or doctoral degree program in a social science, public health, human-computer interaction (HCI), program evaluation, or disability field. Must have experience conducting research using quantitative and/or qualitative research methods. Excellent writing skills required. Education or experience related to disability research, digital accessibility research, program evaluation, or work with under-represented research populations preferred.

Compensation

$30/hr for predoctoral fellows or $40/hr for postdoctoral fellows. 5-10 hours per week for 24 weeks.

Location

AFB headquarters are based in Arlington, VA. This is a part-time, remote position with strong preference given to applicants residing in VA, MD, DC, WV, NY, PA, or FL.
