Hi all,

I’m excited to share a unique opportunity for blind and visually impaired
parents. The Carroll Center for the Blind will be hosting a mobile device
Skill Builder Weekend from August 22–24, designed specifically for blind
parents who want to strengthen their everyday mobile device skills in a
supportive, hands-on environment.

What is Skill Builder Weekend?
It’s a weekend-long program in Newton, MA that focuses on practical,
real-world tasks relevant to blind parenting. Participants will work on:
• Navigating school and health portals (PowerSchool, Google Classroom,
MyChart)
• Using calendars, reminders, and voice assistants
• Communicating effectively with schools and healthcare providers
• Managing transportation, shopping, and household tasks
• Practicing everyday problem-solving with peer and mentor support This
program was developed by and for blind parents and is taught by experienced
professionals and blind parent mentors. Meals and lodging are included.

If you or someone you know might benefit from this opportunity, please
don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or to express interest.
