FOR VISUALLY-IMPAIRED SENIORS AGES 55+

Maintain or increase your bone density and
improve your balance and muscle strength
while you minimize the risk of falls!

1st Session: April 11, 2017 through June 22, 2017
            Location: Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center

Classes are held in the Community Room, which is to the right of the Center's Information Desk

This free program, based on research done at Tufts University, is sponsored by Montgomery County's Departments of Health & Human Services and Recreation. The exercises, done twice weekly, help prevent and reverse osteoporosis, a condition in which bone density decreases and bones become thin, brittle and, thus, subject to breaking. Taught by trained, certified volunteers, participants bring and use light weights and slow repetitions to increase bone density and muscle strength.  The exercises will be described and demonstrated so that seniors who are visually impaired can fully participate. Anyone at any fitness level can join.

Since this is an evidence-based program, participants must be committed to attending classes twice weekly, from 11:30 AM- 12:30 PM every Tuesday and Thursday. Students must be able to do the exercises sitting and standing without the use of wheelchairs or walkers.

Please join us and work towards increasing your bone density and balance - a slow, steady process done in a fun group environment designed specifically for seniors who are visually - impaired. Two blind and two sighted teachers will teach the class.
